Job Summary:
Fiber Optic & Cable Splicer
The Fiber Optic/ & Cable Splicer will be responsible for splicing, testing, repair, and installation of telecommunication cable. This will range from identifying cables and making the right connections, to cable fault analysis. This position will work out of the Columbus, OH office.
REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirement: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
Experience Requirement: Read and interpret engineered drawings or splicing package
Skills and Abilities: Perform duties satisfactorily
Language Requirement: Read, speak, and understand English
Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver’s License, Fiber splicing certification or equivalent experience
Physical Requirement: Sitting, standing, lifting/moving up to 100lbs, hand dexterity, speaking, vision, hearing, color distinction
Mental Requirement: Ability to follow procedures in an organized fashion
Working Conditions: Field
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
· Maintain a current DOT medical card and the medical examination report
· Class A CDL (preferred)
· Maintain OSHA 10 Certification; will provide the training and testing for this for the selected candidate
· Maintain OSHA 30 Certification; will provide the training and testing for this for the selected candidate
· Maintain any other job-related certifications
Technical
· Previous experience working from blueprints and specifications
·Thorough working knowledge of the most widely used construction practices of fiber
1 years of previous experience splicing fiber optic
· Working knowledge of the telecommunications network structure both aerial and underground construction
· Ability to understand the color code to install and test fiber in a variety of environments (aerial and underground)
· Ability to run trouble in fiber cable

DUTIES / TASKS
· Punches in on time and is available for work at the beginning of each workday or splicing schedule
· Operates Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
· Keeps truck inventory at prescribed levels.
· Inspects and tests lines and cables, recording and analyzing test results, to assess transmission characteristics and locate faults and malfunctions.
· Prep fiber using hand tools or fiber splicing tools and equipment.
· Perform an OTDR test of the splice and redo the splice if necessary.
· Place insulation over conductors, and seal splices with moisture proof covering.
· Complete all required company job paperwork on time.
· Complete task within standard time frame.
· Cleans and maintains tools and test equipment.
· Is neatly groomed.
· Notifies supervisor of any unsafe equipment or working conditions.
· Attends safety meetings as required.
· Must be able to use job specific tools such as a fiber splicer, ODTR, optical power meter, light wand, and cleaver.
· Receives an annual performance evaluation of satisfactory or better or a plan is in place to achieve that result.
· Follows company, customer and OSHA Safety rules and regulations while in field.
· Performs any other duty or assignment as may be assigned, from time to time, by the Supervisor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
