What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Health Aide - Independent Living position at Kirkland Village?
The Home Health Aide is responsible providing for the basic care needs and social activities of the Independent Living residents as identified by the Support Plan. Works under the direction of clinical staff.
Training Provided:
- Must have ability to successfully complete Nurse Aide Competency training and certification exam
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; not required
- Previous Home Care and/or caregiver experience preferred
- Active CPR preferred
- Excellent customer service skills and communication skills
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to assess and effectively communicate with residents
Expectations and Responsibilities:
- Assists resident in all activities of daily living as assigned, while encouraging each resident to maintain his/her highest level of independence.
- Carries out basic nursing procedures, such as vital signs, weights, heights, tub baths, application of Ted stockings, changing oxygen tanks, Foley care, specimen collection, ostomy care, etc.
- Assists resident with activities of daily living (such as: meal preparation; medication reminders; grocery shopping; monitoring of food expirations, caring for pets, watering plans; providing individual companionship and supervising daily personal care routine.
- Performs light housekeeping and laundry tasks for residents, including: organizing resident belongings; organizing rooms; changing linens.
- Prepares correspondence (sorting mail and typing) as requested.
- Observes residents and report changes in physical, psychological, and emotional condition to appropriate personnel.
- Contributes to the development of the Service Plan for each resident.
- Documents the care and treatment provided to the resident.
- Transports residents to other areas of community, therapy and appointments.
- Escorts residents to outside physician appointments as assigned.
- Initiates, coordinates, and supervises resident activities in cooperation with activities department.
- May assist in clerical duties in Wellness Center.
- Responds to all emergency calls, regardless of assignment.
- Performs basic emergency care procedures such as first aid, CPR and Heimlich maneuver.
