Quality Assurance Manager Job Description
Position will report directly to the Director of Technical Services – Concrete South
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Direct the responsibilities and performance of the Field Services Manager and Concrete Lab Technician.
- Assist each Division General Manager (GM) and their direct reports with any needs for expertise associated with concrete performance whether this be fresh or hardened concrete properties. This may include, but not be limited to, mix designs, materials evaluations or details, verification of a materials fitness for use, or lack thereof, investigations of fresh or hardened concrete properties, and resolution of performance concerns as the needs arise. Assist this same group by attending meetings as needs arise. Attendance for pre-pour meetings is typically handled by the Sales Departments but will on occasion require the QA Manager’s attendance as well.
- Provide takeoffs and submittals for projects as requested by sales managers for each division. Coordinate needs for any changes associated with performance of this responsibility with each division as needs for process revision may arise.
- Direct testing and verification of materials and mix designs for annual mix verifications required as backup for mix design submittals.
- Direct testing and verification of concrete masonry units for annual certification required for the North Division concrete block production and sales effort.
- Track and maintain the details required in the software used for mix designs and materials management. This will include any material price change, material usage change or addition and material property change for each plant location. Current software products in use are Integra, Sales Insight and iQuadrel. Sales Insight management requirement is largely pricing.
- Periodically evaluate the details maintained in the noted software for materials physical properties, specifically aggregate gradations, and compressive strength properties of individual mix designs with specific focus on potential trends in performance.
- Coordinate interaction with ALDOT regarding plant and concrete lab certifications and approval of mix designs. Actual responsibility for annual or bi-annual certification will ultimately be the QA Manager’s. Actual performance of the associated duties to accomplish these details may be delegated as necessary to their direct reports as needed.
- Coordinate with materials vendors as required to ensure that the level of materials quality is maintained at the level necessary to meet ASTM requirements and KCI’s customer’s needs.
- Verify that all testing equipment that requires a specific certification process and/or timeframe is completed properly. This will largely be delegated to Field Services Manager, concrete laboratory technician and/or concrete field-testing technicians
- Other duties and responsibilities as the need arises.
Minor Duties and Responsibilities:
- Track and manage equipment usage and needs; to include the rolling equipment as well concrete laboratory and field-testing equipment.
- Provide regular expense reports to Director of Technical Services for approval based on company requirements.
- Insure that necessary employee certifications are maintained for concrete production and materials testing.
- Insure that required testing of concrete specimens is performed in a timely manner whenever the usual personnel performing those tests are not available.
- Maintain a presentable work area for workspace assigned and ensure that direct reports do the same.
