Job Summary: The professional tutor assists students in online and face-to-face tutoring sessions to increase their academic knowledge of subject area concepts, college technologies, and college skills. The tutor serves in an embedded support role for designated classes, designs and conducts study sessions or workshops, and creates tutorials or other learning materials to aid students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- A strong commitment to the mission of the community college.
- Ability to facilitate the learning process in a supportive and student-centered environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students and college employees.
- Flexibility to adapt to students’ needs.
- Bachelor degree in English composition
- Experience in teaching or tutoring.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to a diverse student population.
- Computer skills, especially in the areas of Microsoft Office, instructional software, learning management system, subject related technology, and online conferencing.
- Master degree in English composition or Master’s in another discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in one of those subjects.
- Community college experience.
- CRLA and/or ACTLA tutor certification.
- Work is normally performed in a general office environment.
- Work performed requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
- This position requires light physical activity and movement; employee must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or during virtual meetings. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds with the use of proper equipment. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals on a case-by-case basis.
