Job Summary
This full-time position will provide academic support to all Health Science with a special focus on recruitment, retention and completion among at-risk student populations. The Recruitment and Retention Coordinator will provide support and guidance to students considering a Health Sciences program, helping connect them to the right health career and right resources at the College to begin their program. Once enrolled, the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator will provide mentoring and tutoring to students in the Health Science programs, supporting students with academic skills, learning strategies, study habits, time management, organization, reading, test taking, and assistance in the lab with clinical skills if they are not meeting performance standards. This position will also oversee multiple labs, ensuring equipment and supplies are available for students and faculty in each program.
A basic understanding of the rules and regulations of accredited programs and state program standards through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations (IDFPR) is desired. Candidates must exhibit an effective leadership style that advocates for and supports students seeking associate degrees in one of the Health Science Programs. Health Science programs include evening and weekend courses; with advance planning, regular hours may be shifted from time to time to support these class sessions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A strong commitment to the mission of the community college
- Demonstrated teaching ability and experience
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills
- Strong understanding of interdisciplinary health care roles
- Skill in working effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus
- Familiarity with the NCLEX standardized test plan for licensure for Nursing students
- Develop a plan for academic progression with each nursing student enrolled in the nursing program
- Maintain retention reports and update the current retention plan to include targeted measure for the NIU/Kishwaukee College RN-BS in Nursing dual enrolled students
- Participate in lab, clinical, and classroom activities as needed
- Refer students as needed to Student Services, Advising, and Tutoring
- Perform duties related to the Nursing Program as assigned by the Director of Nursing
- Must be able to work on your feet for 2 – 4 hours
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or another closely related Healthcare field
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Illinois
- Two years of nursing clinical experience.
- Prior clinical training experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience with student advising, counseling and retention preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing
- Knowledge of and familiarity with simulation technology in healthcare education

Student Recruitment (estimated 20% of time)
- Assist Director of Nursing and other Health Science program directors with information meetings for prospective students and orientation meetings for new and prospective accepted students
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to assist students in choosing a health science program at Kishwaukee College
- Coordinate Health Sciences special events including the annual open house and smaller, targeted events for specific programs.
- Provide resources and information to students looking to upskill to another Health Science field.
- Collaborate with College Marketing team to promote greater awareness of Health Science programs in the community as a whole
Student Retention, including Lab Skills (estimated 70% of time)
- Collaborate with faculty to identify at-risk students
- Proactively contact students to develop academic success plans
- Set up practice stations for open/practice lab so that the skill activity is provided in a written form according to course plan
- Ensure that equipment is available to practice skills and that students are actively engaged while in the lab
- Assist the students to move to different activities in the lab on a timely basis to ensure equal access for all students
- Ensure that safety standards are met in labs
- Review nursing lab content with students as coordinated with nursing faculty
- Encourage students to notify faculty if students state they are struggling or that they are seeking additional assistance
Lab Oversight (estimated 10% of time)
- Monitor simulation and nursing labs for inventory and safety compliance, ordering simulation and Nursing lab supplies to maintain inventory.
- Consult with faculty and Dean to make purchasing recommendations to best support student learning in the lab setting.
