Job description
The Day Camp Counselor will supervise and effectively lead a group of campers in daily camp activities. Day Camp Counselors will provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities. This job runs approximately from end of May to August.
Essential Functions Serve as a role model with high integrity, and the ability to adapt. Direct group activities with Team leaders, co-workers, and campers as appropriate. Supervise all aspects of the camper’s day including group activities. Assist Campers in the development of the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in a safe and nurturing environment. Ensure the safety of the campers by following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Ensure equipment and facilities are kept in good repair and condition. Complete incident reports as necessary. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the public always. Always maintain child and family confidentiality. Respond to and provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns. Attends staff meetings and training courses as scheduled. Come prepared for all job expectations like planning of activities, games crafts for your group.
Qualifications Age requirement minimum: 16 years of age. Certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid certification preferred. Ability to handle diverse behaviors and situations. Ability to teach and assist in teaching skills and activities Ability to maintain composure during stressful activities. Able to handle your own group as well as addressing issues that arise in your area. Available for the entire season of Summer Camp preferred. Must demonstrate dependability, promptness, and punctuality. Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor. Creative and innovative thinker and planner.
Physical Demands Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid. Physical strength and endurance are required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities. On swim days, must have a suit on and actively participate the water with campers. Ability to be outside for extended periods of time.

Salary: From $15.75 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
We usually run 4 different shifts a day. You will be assigned one of them based on ability.
Opening shift starts at 6:30am and closing shift ends before 6 pm.

- Sycamore, IL: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
- Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
