Position Summary :

Responsible for laying out, assembling, installing, servicing and maintaining pipe systems, pipe supports, sprinklers, backflow devices and water-based fire protection equipment per NFPA guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Service, maintenance, Inspect, repair and test wet sprinklers, dry sprinklers, deluge sprinklers, fire pumps, Wet / Dry standpipe systems, backflow preventers, fire hydrants, and fire hoses.
  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports and hangers, according to specifications.
  • Inspect work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness.
  • Plan installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
  • Cut, thread, groove and solder pipe.
  • Assemble and install a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes and fittings to include but not be limited to, iron, steel, copper and plastic.
  • Connect pipes using threaded, soldered, grooved or cemented joints.
  • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps and hangers
  • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members.
  • Operate machinery to verify repair.
  • Provide testing to ensure the maintenance was completed properly.
  • Work in compliance with the company's safety manual with safety of self and others in mind at all times
  • Maintain company vehicles and appropriate inventory levels for jobs.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.

Other Skills and Abilities :

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, including electric and battery powered equipment.
  • Comfortable with heights and working on ladders or lifts.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to read and comprehend appropriate NFPA codes.
  • Capability of cutting, threading and grooving pipe.
  • Education and / or Experience :

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with one to three years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :

  • Pass NICET Level 1 or greater within 2 years of hire.
  • Valid Driver License in state of residence with minor violations.
  • NEWWA Backflow Certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • High Lift Certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Confined Space Certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Maintain company selected manufacturer's trainings.
  • Maintain state and / or municipality licensing as required.
