POSITION TITLE: Youth Career Services Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Career Services Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
COMPENSATION: $22-$25/Hr.
LOCATION: San Diego, CA

Position Summary:
The Youth Career Services Coordinator will serve as a critical member of the team to support youth participants during their participation in the apprenticeship program by providing continuous coaching, training, and assessments.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Individually meet with youth participants on a regular basis to provide coordination of career coaching and case management services for the duration of their program participation.
  • Facilitate and teach pre-apprenticeship program providing youth participants the opportunity to participate in career exploration into the foods service/hospitality industry.
  • Assist youth participants in developing and working towards educational and career goals. This may involve providing professional development support, helping with resume building and interviewing skills or connecting youth participants with externships and other learning opportunities.
  • Facilitate and teach established workforce readiness curriculum providing youth participants with the soft skills necessary to successfully obtain and maintain careers in the food service/hospitality industry. Curriculum includes but is not limited to: interviewing, resume writing, workplace conduct, and effective communication.
  • Collaborate with instructors to obtain feedback and evaluation of youth participants skill development. Deliver evaluations to youth participants as part of individual career coaching.
  • Collaborate with social service agencies to track progress of case management referrals.
  • Collaborate with the employment team to assist youth participants in connecting to job openings, completing job applications, and going through the interview process.
  • Staying up-to-date on best practices in youth development and incorporating this knowledge into the course curriculum and KFG provided youth services.
  • Source and develop new partnerships with other organizations that meet the needs of transitional aged youth (i.e., housing, medical, dental & vision, grief/loss, trauma, substance abuse, childcare, and behavioral health). Maintain an updated agency contact and referral log.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, ensuring case notes are accurately and efficiently documented to ensure adherence with federal and state regulations as it pertains to storing and filing records.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects, as assigned.

Education & Work Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years work experience as a case manager, career coach, trainer, or relevant experience in a mentoring or advising role.
  • Demonstrated coaching style reflecting compassion, respect, and integrity.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and experience working with youth.
  • Experience working with any or all of the following:
    • Foster youth
    • Ex-offenders/formerly incarcerated
    • Addiction, recovery, and other life-challenges
    • Job training, job placement, adult education, and adult literacy
  • Relevant lived experience (highly desirable)
  • Knowledge of workforce or industry trends in the food service and hospitality industry (desirable)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office 365 programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, One Drive, and Share Point).

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

In addition to the kitchen, this job operates in a kitchen environment, housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat steam, fire and noise.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is routinely required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time non-exempt position with a working schedule of Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, however occasional evening and/or weekend may be required.

Travel:
Employee will be expected to travel to as needed, to additional KFG locations and employer partner sites. Employee must have driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to work across multiple sites.
