Job Summary
The Product Engineering Intern will support the Engineering Department by working part-time in a laboratory setting and part-time assisting with product design activities. This role will involve hands-on product testing, sample preparation, and data analysis in the lab, as well as providing engineering support to our Product Development Engineers in the creation and refinement of mechanical components and assemblies.
The intern will gain valuable exposure to both experimental testing and design engineering processes and will be expected to contribute to various product development activities from concept through validation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting mechanical and physical testing of components in a laboratory setting.
- Prepare test specimens, assemble test setups, and operate lab equipment safely and accurately.
- Collect and document test data, analyze results, and summarize findings.
- Collaborate with Product Development Engineers in creating 3D models and 2D drawings using Creo.
- Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new product development.
- Support design validation activities, including stress analysis and finite element modeling (under supervision).
- Create documentation including test reports, product specifications, and presentation materials.
- Utilize physical measurement devices such as micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools.
- Assist in building and evaluating prototype components including 3D-printed parts.
- Perform competitor product benchmarking and documentation.
- Follow company standards and procedures while executing assignments.
Job Qualifications (Work Experience, Skills, Abilities, etc.)
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software (preferably PTC Creo) and Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong interest in hands-on work, design, and testing of mechanical products.
- Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and communicate clearly with peers and mentors.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
- Previous internship or lab experience is a plus but not required.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent. Pursuing Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
