Kitsap County Facilities Maintenance is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Worker!

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKER GENERAL OVERVIEW 
Assist with construction and perform minor repairs on structures, facilities and equipment which may include, but is not limited to, routine plumbing, carpentry, drywall repairs and painting. Perform facility preparation, set-up and take-down of chairs, tables, and other furniture and equipment according to facility use schedules. Load, unload and move or assist in loading, unloading and moving supplies and equipment.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 
  • Six months of manual labor or maintenance experience OR
  •  1 year of trade school in a program which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work.

 Preferred Education and Experience       

  • Experience working in commercial or public buildings
  • Trade or technical school training
Criminal Conviction Standards: 
  • The successful incumbent will or may have unsupervised access to children under 18 years of age, a vulnerable adult, or a vulnerable person, or access to a secured/confidential facility or computer system(s). As a result, Kitsap County will be conducting an extensive criminal background check by law enforcement agencies, which will include fingerprinting.

Driving Requirements
The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment.  The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver's License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy.
  • This position is categorized as: Category 1: Driver operates County-owned vehicle, depending on assignment.

Work is performed in and around County facilities throughout Kitsap County including the Kitsap County Corrections Center, Juvenile Detention Facility, Kitsap Recovery Center, and the Coroner's facility.

Positions in this class typically require:  
  • Walking, bending, stooping and twisting.
  • Reaching above and/or below shoulders.
  • Handling/grasping documents for equipment.
  • Sitting and/or standing for short or extended periods of time.
  • Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in-person, on the telephone, or using other electronic media.
  • Hearing audible signals, traffic, equipment, warnings.
  • Vision sufficient to drive a vehicle during daylight and nighttime hours, read source materials, plans and drawings, to read computer and similar screens and see detail or color.
  • Repetitive motions for computer/tool/equipment use.
  • Requires exertion of force of 50 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and/or 5 pounds continuously to lift/carry/move objects, files/documents, and field equipment necessary to conduct inspections.
  • May occasionally be exposed to physical hazards from obstacles, heavy equipment, construction materials, locations at, above or below grade, various airborne pollutants, chemicals, heavy metals, spray paints, loud noises, and domestic animals on construction sites. 
  • May require climbing steps and ladders, entry into attics and crawl spaces, traversing rough, slippery and / or uneven terrain on construction or other sites.
  • Field inspections or evaluations may require extended periods of walking or standing, driving or riding in a passenger vehicle, keyboarding, looking up or down and handling small hand tools like flashlights and clipboards.
  • Don and use head, hearing, foot, eye and fall protection (as needed).
  • Personal Protection Experience is required.
  • Ability to crawl, climb ladders or temporary scaffolding stoop, duck, kneel, twist, extend arms above head to accomplish required examinations; and, balance sufficient to traverse walkways, uneven or slippery surfaces, ascend and descend ladders and stairs.
  • Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions at constructions sites.
  • Employees in this department are considered 'essential employees' and are expected to report to duty on time and remain at work until the end of the scheduled shift even if an inclement weather event or emergency is declared.
  • Performs a variety of routine activities in maintaining County buildings, such as clearing brush piles; picking up litter; performing basic maintenance tasks; and shoveling snow.
  • Operates equipment and vehicles (involving operation of vehicles which do not require a commercial driver's license).
  • Use hand and power tools requiring minimal technical skills.
  • Performs operational checks and simple maintenance activities; reports needed repairs.
  • Construct and perform repairs on structures and facilities which may include routine plumbing and carpentry, minor building projects and furniture refinishing.
  • Perform maintenance of buildings, facilities and equipment; ensure cleanliness of work areas.
  • Maintains various records including work performed, time spent, materials used and related information; enters and extracts data using automated systems; maintain manuals records as required.
  • Performs grounds maintenance activities on County property.
  • Participate as a member of a crew performing construction, maintenance and repair activities. Replace defective light bulbs. Paint and replace ceiling tiles as needed. Paint a variety of surfaces including but not limited to a building's interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Haul trash and metal to disposal facilities and perform other duties requiring the operation of County vehicles.
  • Performs cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing, and/or vacuuming.
  • Perform facility preparation, set-up and break-down according to facility use schedules.
  • Load, unload, and move or assist in loading, unloading, and moving supplies, equipment and furniture.
  • Clean and maintain parking lots including painting stripes and directional signs.    
  • Install parking barriers and signposts.
  • Provides assistance to public including responding to customer inquiries, explaining program rules and regulations, and assisting with maintenance of public safety.
  • Employs any and all protective equipment necessary to perform tasks when working with chemicals or in the disposal of waste.
