INTERNSHIP - EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT (PLANS, TRAINING & EXERCISE)

• Term of internship: Begins approximately May/June and may go through the end of September. 
• Paid internship, 12-15 hours per week, flexible days. 
• Applications will be reviewed in the week of April 7th. 

• Must be able to show proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution at the time of internship.  If the internship occurs during the summer, the student may provide proof of summer or fall enrollment. 

Desired Majors and Class Level

• Emergency Management or related field.
• Sophomore(2Y) - Senior(4Y)

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) through the development of a tabletop exercise. 
• Increase understanding of the COOP / COG process and development process.
• Show practical application of learning through the development of an Event Action Plan (EAP)
• Show practical application of learning through the development of two Job Action Sheets and two position checklists applicable to the Kitsap County DEM EOC.
• Show practical understanding of Emergency Management through work on editing and updating the Comprehensive emergency Management Plan

 SUPERVISION

• Intern will receive supervision from an administrative superior as assigned. 
• Work is performed in accordance with established policies and accepted practices. 
• Work is reviewed through status reports, meetings and observations.

Driving Requirements

The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment.  The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. This position is categorized as:

1. Category 1: Driver operates County-owned vehicle. 

Prior to employment, the successful candidate must:  

• Show proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university or business school, if education is being used to meet the minimum qualifications.
• Pass all job-related examinations/tests necessary to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities, as determined by the hiring authority at time of job posting.
• Authorize and complete a criminal background check. Information received is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will not necessarily remove a candidate from consideration. 

• Develop table top exercise.
• Assist in the development of a Continuity of Operations/Continuity of Government for Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management and the Board of Commissioners.
• Develop Event Action Plans for local events and the FIFA World Cup 2026.
• Assist with the review, edit, and update of Kitsap County's comprehensive emergency Management Plan.
• Assist with the development of the EOC operations manual.
