Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a HARPS SUD Peer Support Specialist to provide peer support services for individuals experiencing substance use challenges and housing instability. As someone with lived experience in substance use services, you will play a critical role in guiding and mentoring clients as they work toward recovery, stability, and independence. This role focuses on advocacy, resource navigation, and empowerment while helping clients secure housing, employment, and essential daily living supports. Primary Responsibilities:
- Support clients in finding and maintaining safe, affordable housing, including apartment hunting, landlord negotiations, and financial planning.
- Assist clients with employment resources, such as job training, work readiness support, and referrals to employment programs.
- Provide education and hands-on support for daily living tasks, including meal preparation, personal hygiene, and financial management.
- Guide clients through accessing medical care, mental health services, and substance use treatment resources.
- Facilitate social engagement by encouraging participation in community activities and peer support groups.
- Offer direct peer support by sharing lived experiences, promoting hope, and encouraging self-determination in recovery.
- Help clients identify and address barriers to stability, including stigma, discrimination, and lack of access to resources.
- Collaborate with team members and external partners to ensure wraparound support for clients.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)
This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must meet agency driving requirements, including meeting the minimum age requirement of 21 years old, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.
LICENSURE: Eligibility for Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.
Preferred Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.
Capacity to work well with children and families.
