Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Co-occurring Disorders (COD) Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team. The COD Therapist will work with individuals experiencing both mental health and substance use disorders, providing integrated treatment and support. This role includes individual, group, and family therapy, as well as crisis intervention, care coordination, and substance use disorder assessments using ASAM criteria. As a key member of our team, you will also collaborate with other community services to support clients in their recovery journey.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide care coordination and direct clinical services for an assigned group of clients, including individual, group, and family counseling, case management, and crisis intervention.
- Conduct substance use disorder assessments and determine level of care placements using the ASAM criteria.
- Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate integrated treatment plans for clients with co-occurring disorders, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Use motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and stage-wise treatment strategies to support client recovery.
- Provide education and support to clients’ families and serve as an advocate for clients’ rights and preferences.
- Collaborate with external providers such as primary care physicians, dentists, and community agencies to coordinate care and promote overall health and well-being.
- Offer crisis intervention services as needed and collaborate with crisis responders and relevant teams.
- Document client progress and treatment activities in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with agency policies and standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, treatment planning reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination sessions to ensure continuity of care.
- Educate clients on substance use issues, mental and physical health, and daily functioning. Coordinate services with internal and external substance use treatment providers.
- Assist clients in accessing resources and education to enhance autonomy and address basic needs.
- Monitor clients for Least Restrictive Alternatives (LRA) compliance and assist in coordinating LRA extensions and legal requirements as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Psychology, social services, or behavioral health.
EXPERIENCE: Entry level (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must meet agency driving requirements, including meeting the minimum age requirement of 21 years old, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.
Capacity to work well with adults with complex mental health needs.
LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration. Current licensure as a Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee. Must maintain a Washington State Department of Health license in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Experience in co-occurring disorders treatment, individual and group therapy, vocational services, or substance abuse treatment.
LICENSURE: Licensed Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration or independent mental health licensure. Current licensure as Substance Use Disorder Professional or WA State COD enhancement.
Meet and maintain the definition of a Mental Health Professional as defined in RCW 71.05.020.
