Position Title: Facilities Foreman Location: Kittery School District Reports to: John DeSantis Position Start Date: Once suitable candidate is found Required Certification: Criminal History Record Check Application Deadline: None Full-Time Position The Kittery School District is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Facilities Foreman to support the Facilities Director in maintaining the district’s schools and grounds. This is a full-time position, typically scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with some flexibility required for evenings and weekends as needed. About the Position: The Facilities Foreman plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of all Kittery School District facilities, including Mitchell Primary School, Shapleigh School, and Traip Academy, as well as surrounding school grounds. The successful candidate will assist in overseeing maintenance operations, coordinating facility repairs, and supervising custodial and maintenance staff as needed. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Facilities Director in managing the daily operations of district buildings and grounds. Oversee and support custodial and maintenance staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC system tasks. Coordinate preventive maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of district facilities and equipment. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, fire codes, and environmental standards. Monitor building security and emergency preparedness procedures. Respond to facility emergencies in a timely manner, including inclement weather situations (e.g., snow removal, storm preparation). Assist in managing work orders, vendor contracts, and supply inventory. Communicate effectively with district administration, staff, and external contractors. Support event setups and breakdowns, including school functions and community events held on school property. Fill in as needed in the absence of a custodian when a viable substitute is unavailable. Qualifications & Skills: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff, vendors, and administration. Prior supervisory or management experience in a facilities, maintenance, or custodial setting preferred. Experience with building systems, general maintenance, and custodial operations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of OSHA, fire safety, and environmental regulations. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Must possess or be willing to obtain any required state and local certifications. Positive, can-do attitude. Valid driver’s license required. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Capable of prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and working in various weather conditions.
