Job Summary:
Dare County Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary Music Teacher to inspire students in grades K-5 through engaging and developmentally appropriate music instruction. The ideal candidate will foster a love for music, promote creativity, and integrate a variety of musical experiences to support students’ artistic and academic growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum aligned with North Carolina state standards.
- Teach general music classes, including vocal instruction, rhythm, movement, and basic instrumental skills.
- Plan and conduct student performances such as concerts, assemblies, and special events.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
- Incorporate technology and various instructional strategies to enhance student learning.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate music into the broader curriculum.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of musical instruments and classroom resources.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student development.
- Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-wide activities.
- Uphold school and district policies, including professional and ethical standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Licensure: North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Music (K-12) or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Experience: Previous teaching experience preferred, but not required for entry-level candidates.
- Strong knowledge of music theory, vocal techniques, and elementary music pedagogy.
- Ability to play and teach basic instruments (e.g., recorder, ukulele, percussion, piano).
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
- School-based setting, working with students in a classroom and performance environment.
- Requires standing, movement, and some lifting of musical equipment.
