Position Overview
The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office is seeking dedicated and professional individuals to serve as Deputy Sheriffs in our Patrol Division. This role is responsible for enforcing state and local laws, preventing crime, and ensuring public safety by patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergencies, and conducting investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol public highways, roadways, business, and residential areas
- Conduct security checks, investigate suspicious activity, and respond to calls regarding crimes or incidents
- Issue warnings or citations and make arrests when necessary
- Investigate traffic accidents, provide emergency first aid, and gather evidence
- Serve subpoenas, summons, and warrants, and testify in court as needed
- Assist with search and rescue operations
- Develop and maintain proficiency in defensive tactics, firearms, emergency response, and law enforcement technologies
- Provide public assistance and educate the community on laws and safety procedures
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports
- Minimum age: 21 years old
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Certification: Must obtain DPSST Basic Certification within one year of hire
- Experience: Current or recent experience as a Police Officer, Corrections Officer, or Reserve Officer is preferred but not required
- Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License
- First Aid and CPR Certification (required upon DPSST certification and periodic renewal)
- Physical Fitness: Must meet Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) physical requirements
- Strong ability to analyze and interpret laws, policies, and procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
- Proficiency in law enforcement software (Beacon Database, Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet applications)
- Strong problem-solving and investigative skills
- Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands for handling equipment
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, kneel, or crawl
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and over 100 pounds occasionally
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions, mechanical hazards, hazardous materials, and loud noise environments
