Salary: Currently $49,638.36-$92,138.12 (DOE), still being negotiated for 2025-2026.

Job Title: Middle/High School Choir Teacher
Location: Klamath Union High School
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary:
The High School Choir Teacher is responsible for leading and developing a comprehensive vocal music program that fosters students' musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for choral music. This position involves directing choir performances, teaching vocal techniques, and integrating music theory and history into instruction. The Choir Teacher will work closely with students, parents, and the school community to create a dynamic and engaging choir program.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Plan and implement engaging and effective choir and vocal music instruction.
- Teach vocal techniques, sight-reading, music theory, and performance skills.
- Select and arrange appropriate repertoire for various choir groups and skill levels.
- Incorporate diverse musical styles and cultural perspectives in the curriculum.
Performance & Program Leadership:
- Direct and conduct choir performances, concerts, and competitions.
- Organize rehearsals, auditions, and special music events.
- Lead school and community performances, including seasonal concerts, assemblies, and public events.
- Encourage and prepare students for regional and state-level choir competitions.
Student Development & Engagement:
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Provide individual vocal coaching and support student musical growth.
- Encourage student participation in music-related extracurricular activities.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, and confidence through choral music.
Collaboration & Administrative Duties:
- Work closely with school administrators, faculty, and parents to support students' musical education.
- Manage the choir program’s budget, equipment, and resources.
- Coordinate with accompanists, guest musicians, and community organizations.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and participation.
- Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
- Valid Oregon state teaching certification/licensure in Music Education.
- Experience in choral conducting and vocal instruction at the high school level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy, music theory, and performance practices.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students in a collaborative setting.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Work in a classroom, rehearsal space, and performance venue settings.
- Attend and lead evening and weekend performances and rehearsals as needed.
- Engage with students, parents, and the school community to build a thriving choir program.
