The Spanish teachers function is to teach one or more classes of Spanish, which includes instruction in literature and cross-cultural studies to pupils in grades 9-12 and assists in other school programs as assigned. The goals of effective performance are to develop in each student an appreciation of the language, customs and traditions of Spanish speaking countries, to develop proficiency in the use of the Spanish language both in its basic structure, idioms, as well as in non-verbal communication. Beginning students should have an understanding of the basic grammatical structure and vocabulary of Spanish grammar. Advanced students should have a thorough understanding of Spanish grammar, and expanded vocabulary, and be skilled in reading, writing, speaking and understand basic sentences. The students should develop a sensitivity to the social and culture issues that affect Spanish speaking societies as well as develop and understanding of the unique characteristics of Hispanic citizens within our own country.
