Job Description
KLB Construction, LLC is seeking a skilled estimator or an experienced heavy-civil construction individual looking to start their estimating career. This is an exceptional opportunity for an analytical candidate with a strong background in heavy-civil construction who enjoys the dynamic environment of construction estimating. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for our heavy civil construction projects, including earthwork, underground utilities, environmental, energy, and roadway construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Analyze bid documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost and labor estimates.
- Conduct site visits and gather necessary data to improve estimate accuracy.
- Utilize project scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project) to construct prebid construction schedules.
- Solicit and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Present estimates to senior management and clients, clearly explaining assumptions, logistics, cost, opportunities, and risk.
Qualifications
- Analytical and critical thinking skills, with high accuracy in calculations and estimates.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy civil construction projects, with a focus on earthwork and utilities.
- Ability to independently review and interpret contractual documents, drawings, and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to visit project sites as needed to assess conditions and verify estimate assumptions.
- Frequent interaction with people and technology throughout the workday.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk short distances for extended periods.
