Description
Klickitat Valley Health is searching for a compassionate Specialty Clinic Assistant II to join our Specialty Outpatient Clinic team. This casual position offers varied hours.
GENERAL SUMMARY :
The Specialty Clinic Assistant II is responsible for supporting both the clinical and non-clinical functions of the Specialty Outpatient Clinic. The Assistant schedules clinic visits and surgical procedures with providers who represent a variety of medical specialties and ensures the appropriate paperwork and authorizations are obtained from insurance providers for such services prior to treatment. The Assistant coordinates patient flow and assists the provider as a Medical Assistant during clinic visits as defined by the Standards and Scope of Practice for the Medical Assistant (RCW 18.360.050). The Assistant works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal outcomes for our patients.
Klickitat Valley Health is a rural, critical-access hospital located in scenic Goldendale, Washington only two hours from Portland along the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge. KVH offers emergency and acute inpatient care and a full scope of ancillary services including General Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, PT / OT, Behavioral Health, Dental, Pain Management, Optometry and Hospice. The hospital also owns a busy, well-established primary clinic that is located on hospital campus. Inpatient care is managed by 24 / 7 Hospitalist staff. KVH employs over 300 staff.

Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications) :

Education / Licensure :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Washington State Medical Assistant certification (Certified).
- National Certification through AAMA or equivalent preferred.
- BLS required
Experience :
One year experience as a Medical Assistant preferred but not requiredExperience with front-office clinic duties including insurance authorization is also strongly preferredESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to) :
Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to the age of the patients served in the hospital and surgical services departmentDemonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development and provide service according to the identified age specific needsObserves and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standardsAssists provider or nurse with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasksPrepares exam room and maintains adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies necessary for treatmentCoordinates patient flow by rooming and preparing the patient for the provider assessmentAdministers medications under the direct supervision of a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner (as per site operations) within the scope of practice of a Registered Medical AssistantObserves, records and reports (to provider) patient's condition and reaction to drugs and / or treatmentsInstructs patient / family regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and health / wellness issues utilizing available resourcesAssists physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner with exams and procedures including suture removal, wound care, cast application, and other procedures within the scope of practice for a Registered Medical AssistantAccurately documents patient history, vital signs, immunizations and allergies in the patient recordResponsible for scheduling clinic appointments and surgical proceduresEnsures prior authorization has been obtained from insurance company prior to treatmentTracks and routes test results to provider(s) for review, and communicates test results to patients when deemed appropriate by providerProcesses orders appropriately and accuratelyPrepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic proceduresReports all observed patient concerns and changes in conditionMonitors and cleans patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipmentAssists in routine clerical functions such as filing of patient's records, locating and compiling charts, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposesPromotes Accuracy and attention to detail in all paperwork completedProvides patients with educational materials as directedPrepares set up for sterile proceduresObtains vital signsPerforms aseptic procedures and assists with sterile procedures in the specialty clinic setting.Capillary blood withdrawal, and intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.ElectrocardiographyRespiratory testingAdministers medication and vaccines with provider orders for drugs approved under the MA-C scope of practice.Prepares patients for, and provides support with routine and specialty examinations, procedures, treatments and minor office surgeries and EMR documentation.Assist with care of patients for procedure / surgery following MA-C scope of practice.Learn More
