Maintenance Technician - Public Works - Bickleton, WA - Full Time - Non-Exempt , Salary set by Union, Step 1, $26.15/Hr. - First review 2/7/2025 - Open until filled.
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled routine and manual road maintenance and construction work and other related work as required. Operates a variety of hand and power tools and various vehicles and equipment to accomplish work.
Essential Job Duties:- Operates a variety of equipment and tools, such as graders, backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, rollers, snow plows and the like.
- Makes repairs to roadways, roadway shoulders and related structures, such as bridges and guardrails.
- Uses hot and cold asphalt mix to repair chuckholes and roadways.
- Picks up rubbish, debris and dead animals; cleans ditches and culverts by using hand tools; cleans bridges; performs general clean-up work.
- Cuts brush, trees and other vegetation using heavy equipment, chain saw, machete, ax, brush hook and other hand tools; burns brush and weeds.
- Acts as traffic flagger; places traffic cones, signs, barricades and other traffic control devices to insure a smooth flow of traffic; may drive pilot car.
- Conducts ones self in a courteous manner with the public and other employees.
- Subject to rotating mandatory on-call during non-business hours Mondays through Sundays.
- Assists other maintenance workers in performing more complex projects and duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures. Techniques, methods and practices of road maintenance. The proper and safe use of a variety of equipment. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Operate and use a variety of motorized equipment and vehicles used in the performance of duties. Work independently or cooperatively in work crews. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Physically perform the essential functions of the job.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- High school diploma or G.E.D., and experience operating motorized equipment, preferably in road maintenance or related field.
- Valid Washington State Commercial driver's license
- Class A combination with tank vehicle endorsement and no air brake restriction.
- Valid Washington State approved Flagger's Card.
