Job Description
The heavy equipment operator operates a variety of contractor equipment and trucks used in construction, maintenance and repair activities and performs a variety of tasks. An operator should be able to operate trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies. Works and assists crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, moving material, and any related work asked of them. Operators must perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, clean equipment, and refers defects/repairs that need done to their supervisor
DirtWorks Drainage currently utilizes the following pieces of equipment and attachments to complete its project workloads. Additional equipment may be used as individual projects may require non-standard equipment.
Requirements
- Strong ability to operate all utilized equipment with extreme efficiency on vary grades and terrain.
- Must be able to understand and set required grades and install various installations per engineered blueprints matting, etc.
- Must be able to communicate with foremen and construction team; as well as receive constructive feedback from the job Foreman.
- Excellent skills needed to track time, material, and progress; as well as report damages and/or maintenance needs.
- Must be willing to travel within a multi-state area.
- Ability to take direction
- Must pass a pre-employment and random drug tests
- Must pass an acceptable background check
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and be insurable
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
- Must be experienced in heavy equipment operation (excavator, backhoe, bulldozer, tracked carriers, etc.).

- Consistently shows exemplary operating skills.
- Excellent ability to keep work area and equipment clean by disposing of scrap, refuse, and excess material.
T-1 Operator (7-10 Years’ Experience Operating Heavy Equipment on various jobsites as an Operator):
- Outstanding ability to operate all utilized equipment with extreme efficiency
- Outstanding ability to operate on vary grades and terrain
- Ability to understand and set required grades and install various installations per engineered blueprints matting, etc.
- Outstanding ability to keep work area and equipment clean by disposing of scrap, refuse, and excess material.
- Outstanding ability to communicate with foremen and construction team
- Outstanding ability to track time, material, and progress
- Outstanding ability to report damages and/or maintenance needs
- Consistently shows exemplary operating skills
- Must exhibit discipline and work with excellence in the everyday performance of assigned tasks
T-2 Operator (3-7 Years’ Experience Operating Heavy Equipment on various jobsites as an Operator):
- Developing ability to operate majority of utilized heavy equipment with extreme efficiency
- Developing ability to operate on varying grades and terrain
- Developing the ability to understand and set required grades and install various installations per engineered blueprints (gas line crossings, bridges, water crossings, work pad dimensions, water bars, broad based dips, timber matting, etc.
- Consistent ability to communicate with foreman and construction team
- Consistent ability to track time, material, and/or maintenance needs
- Outstanding ability to report damages, and/or maintenance needs
- Shows proficiency in operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment and attachments
- Must exhibit discipline and work with excellence in the everyday performance of assigned tasks
T-3 Operator (1-3 Years’ Experience Operating skid loader, rough grade on Dozer, mini-medium sized excavator):
- Entry level operator
- Shows proficiency with basic ability to understand and set required grades and install various installations.
- Worked to develop ability to operate on varying grades and terrain.
- Working to develop ability to understand and set required grades and install various installations per engineered blueprints (gas line crossing, bridges, water crossing, work pad dimensions, water bars, broad based dips, timber matting, etc.
- Proficient ability to communicate with foreman and construction team.
- Developing ability to track time, material, and progress.
- Ability to report damages and/or maintenance needs
- Ability to load/unload equipment from trailers
- Working to develop ability to operate various skid steer attachments
- Able to dig to grade
