The Survey Technician plays a key role in supporting civil engineering and land surveying projects by collecting, analyzing, and processing field data. Working closely with surveyors and engineers, this position involves operating survey equipment, preparing maps and reports, and ensuring data accuracy for project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities :
- Assist in conducting land surveys for engineering, construction, and mapping projects.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
- Collect and record accurate field data, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
- Assist in boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Process survey data using CAD and GIS software to create maps, drawings, and reports.
- Interpret engineering and survey plans to ensure fieldwork aligns with project requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to support project goals.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company protocols while working in the field.
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Assist in preparing legal descriptions, plats, and other survey-related documents.

Work Environment :
Under direct supervision, provides survey support to the Resident Engineer on projects to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. Tasks may include assisting with and receiving training in performing land surveys and conducting research on various construction projects of basic complexity which may include visually mapping / drafting legal boundaries and the potential placement of structures, utilities, and installations. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for uniformity, thoroughness, and legal compliance for survey documents.
