The Opportunity
What We Are Looking For
We’re now hiring an Environmental, Health & Safety Director to support KLN Family Brands. The full-time employee in this position will be responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of company-wide safety initiatives, policies, procedures and philosophies. This person will also direct the company’s efforts related to employee safety and health and develop company-wide safety and injury reduction goals designed to reduce overall total cost of risk. The person in this role will report to Sr. Director of Food Safety & EHS.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and safety performance expectations to assure mutual understanding of desired results; provides positive and constructive feedback on an ongoing basis.
- Works with facility leadership to identify and develop facility specific goals to improve safety culture and reduce workplace injuries. Promotes a safety culture throughout the organization.
- Stays up-to-date on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, communicates plant-specific requirements to appropriate personnel.
- Works with plant team members to develop and implement specific safety plans and policies.
- Collaborates with plant EHS Coordinators and plant management to conduct regular and frequent plant inspections, safety audits and risk analyses to ensure compliance with safety policies, identify areas for improvement, and ensure recommendations have been implemented.
- Identifies, develops and facilitates safety training and development programs for all employees.
- Develops and implements emergency response plans, including training employees on procedures for various emergency scenarios.
- Works with corporate and plant engineering teams on new equipment and process reviews, including hazard analyses and development of engineering controls that minimizes safety and occupational hazards.
- Is informed of all safety related incidents and works with plant EHS Coordinators and plant management to address these situations appropriately.
- Supports, advises and participates in accident and incident investigations.
- Supports plant personnel in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Works with plant personnel to develop, implement and maintain environmental safety programs, systems, and reporting, e.g. SWPPP, waste water, hazardous chemical, spill containment, etc.
- Supports, advises and participates in plant safety committees.
- Reviews meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
- Develops positive working relationships with insurance and industry representatives.
- Provides necessary support during Social Compliance audits
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or similar and 6-10 years of food manufacturing safety experience; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge. Professional Safety certification is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory requirements, including OSHA General Industry and Construction standards
- Familiarity with Sphera Cloud safety reporting system a plus
