SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Tool Engineering Manager leads the Design Engineering and Tool Build departments, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. This position supports Estimating, Project Engineering, Production and Tool Maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Manage and develop the Design Engineering and Tool Build functions and employees, including organizational structure, employee skill development and performance reviews
· Responsible for work assignment, capacity planning and reporting, including contingency resources
· Responsible for department budgets and financial performance
· Support accurate and timely customer quotes by supplying tool quotes to the Cost Estimating group
· Ensure alignment of tool quotes, designs, and builds with production and tool maintenance needs
· Lead justification of technology and software within areas of responsibility to reduce time and cost
· Oversee tool design and build standards to improve efficiency of design and build process
· Recommend and justify equipment for responsible areas
· Ensure safe and proper use of Tool Build equipment for safe, efficient use of material and labor
· Act as a tool and part technical resource to customers and coworkers for tool design and build
· Identify and manage annual Department Initiatives
· Responsible for use and results of performance dashboards in Design Engineering and Tool Build
· Other duties as assigned or required
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.
- Journeyman tool accreditation or equivalent experience preferred
- Ability to read blueprints including understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Basic 3D CAD knowledge required, SolidWorks preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication; ability to communicate across organization and with customers
- 3 years management experience in tool build or relevant field
- Associates degree in Engineering or relevant field preferred
- MS Office proficiency
- Prior experience in stamping, fabrication or other relevant manufacturing required
- Familiarity with Plex or other ERP system preferred
- Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
