KMJ's client is seeking a dynamic and passionate licensed architect, with a successful track record leading projects through all phases of design, with the potential and talent to inspire and lead a small but talented and experienced team, to join their firm and lead their architectural team as Director of Architecture. The Director of Architecture will assist salespeople with business development efforts (architecturally, when needed), lead clients through the schematic design process, assist and supervise each projects’ development and refinement through subsequent design development and construction document phases (including Principal Architect responsibilities to stamp drawings and responsibly control the design process in states where allowed), and take lead responsibility for continuing to build, manage and refine the architectural studio’s capabilities, creativity, efficiency, accuracy, and reputation with clients and within the design community.
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess the following minimum experience, skills and abilities:
- Licensed Architect with current AIA registration and NCARB certification.
- 25 years architectural design experience related to commercial ground-up construction.
- 5-10 years’ experience developing and managing architectural teams.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills (ability to empower and foster a strong design sensibility in the team, while also setting and maintaining high standards for the quality, efficiency and accuracy of deliverables).
- Outstanding design, graphic presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of design and construction standards, documentation, techniques, tools, and building materials/systems, etc.
- Ability to create inspirational architecture that meets clients’ objectives while adhering to budgets, schedules, and performance criteria.
- Passionate about trends in architectural design and their relevance to inform work
- Willingness and desire to assist with business development, marketing, & client presentations.
- A serve-first approach to relationships with coworkers, vendors, and clients, and a devotion to high quality customer service.
- Mastery of the basic technical skills required for all phases of architecture, and ability to supervise and develop these skills in other team members.
- Schematic Design – Client Meetings/Presentations, Conceptual Design, Hand Sketching, Revit and AutoCAD, Design Development - Client Meetings/Presentations, Detailed Design, Value Engineering, Revit and AutoCAD, Exterior Finishes, Scope of Work (Word/Excel), Photorealistic Renderings (Typically Outsourced), Proofing All Work Product, etc. Construction Documents – C.D. Production, Revit and AutoCAD, Specification Writing & Review (BSD SpecLink-E), Engineering Contracts/Coordination/Review, Proofing All Work Product, Permitting/Code Reviews, etc. Construction Administration – Manage and assist with responding to RFIs, architectural change orders, site visits, reviewing/approving submittals, etc. Sales Support - Assist sales in pre-contractual meetings and presentations.
- Proficiency with the following computer skills: Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Revit & AutoCAD (other 3D rendering software, like SketchUp, a plus).
