ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Military Travel Clerk to provide travel coordination and training support for Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE (ACB-1) in San Diego, CA. Your scope of work includes administering the Defense Travel System (DTS), managing travel authorizations and vouchers, and supporting training logistics for Reserve Component (RC) personnel to ensure mission readiness.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Travel Administration:
  • Provide customer service for the Defense Travel System (DTS) by assisting users with system functionality and navigation
  • Troubleshoot DTS irregularities, performance issues, and glitches, and escalate unresolved issues for customers
  • Submit trouble reports to the DTS help desk
  • Administer member profiles in DTS (e.g., creating, editing, receiving, and transferring profiles)
  • Conduct individual or classroom training sessions on travel entitlements and DTS processes quarterly
Travel Planning:
  • Plan itineraries; arrange flights, hotels, and rental cars that meet regulations and mission requirements at the lowest cost
  • Report travel arrangements and pricing info to the Government Authorizing Official (GAO) with regulatory citations
  • Assist in preparing Travel Authorizations (TA) and Travel Vouchers (TV) for personnel without a Government Travel Card (GTC) or DTS access
  • Submit TA and TV to the GAO for review and approval
Travel Processing:
  • Monitor, track, and report unapproved TA to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and GAO every Friday
  • Review DTS authorizations for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and funding constraints while ensuring mission objectives
  • Identify discrepancies in TA and notify the GAO for corrections
  • Verify TA accuracy and completeness with supporting documentation and regulatory citations
  • Review submitted vouchers and sub-vouchers for accuracy, completeness, and required supporting docs (e.g. receipts as required per Joint Travel Regulation)
  • Summarize errors and discrepancies in Word format and submit to the COR and GAO by close of business Friday
Travel Cards & Reporting:
  • Process GTC requests, terminations, and transfers for new and transferring personnel
  • Prepare weekly Excel reports on Individually Billed Accounts (IBA) for the Agency Program Coordinator’s (APC) review
  • Include delinquency status, credit balances, overpayments, erroneous payments, possible irregularities, and unauthorized charges in weekly reports
  • Submit draft weekly reports to the COR and GAO no later than Friday
Policy Review and Process Improvement:
  • Review office procedures related to travel and make recommendations to the GAO for improvement on a yearly basis
  • Implement approved recommendations for travel procedures
Reserve Training Support:
  • Report to Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE training department to assist with Reserve Component training needs during downtime or as directed by the COR

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Knowledge of Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) and other applicable travel policies
  • Knowledge of travel management systems (e.g., DTS)
  • Knowledge of troubling shooting travel management software (e.g., DTS)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills and deadline-oriented

BACKGROUND
  • Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced administrative environment preferred
  • Experience in customer service preferred
  • Experience planning and coordinating travel (e.g., flights, hotels, and rental vehicles) preferred
  • Experience preparing and submitting reports regularly preferred

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Other Considerations. Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.

Salary : $44,000 - $48,000
