Knife River is looking for Quality Control Technicians to join our team in Cheyenne, WY.
Role Overview:
This position is responsible to safely collect samples of crushed stone/aggregate/sand/gravel, asphalt or concrete to test for conformance to specifications. Will need to display a professional and courteous attitude with customers and team members.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely and properly perform laboratory tests on variety of materials (Aggregate, Asphalt and/or Concrete).
- Collect material samples, identify material, and compile statistical data on test results.
- Perform necessary tests (i.e., gradations, incinerations, rice tests, marshall tests, %crushed, etc.)
- Examine and evaluate data – determine material quality in relation to specifications.
- Present alternative actions in relation to the evaluation (problem solving skills).
- Perform math calculations and interpret data.
- Maintain lab and equipment and perform daily housekeeping.
- Conduct finished and in-process inspections.
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, work with a team and have good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful towards others. Communicate test results to appropriate stakeholders.
- Ensure work activities comply with OSHA, MSHA, EPA, safety and environmental regulations.
- Must have valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record under Company policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
As a successful Lab/Quality Control Technician you will have:
- Preferred candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with aggregate/concrete materials and have knowledge of the testing procedures however, Knife River is willing to train the right candidate.
- Ability to hold and maintain a driver’s license in accordance with all state and federal regulations.
- Attention to detail and aptitude for utilizing mathematical calculations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime and some Saturdays.
- Hold material testing qualifications/certifications including but not limited to WYDOT, ACI, AASHTP, NRMCA, etc. or have the ability to acquire them.
