This position is responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities of projects in asphalt paving, grading, milling, and concrete production.
- Gravel Base: To oversee efficiency of gravel/base operation and produce quality.
- Milling: To oversee efficiency of milling operation and base jobs to produce quality gravel/base product.
- Paving: To oversee efficiency of paving operation to produce quality asphalt product.
- Equipment: To oversee quality and efficiency of equipment maintenance.
Salary range: Seasonal (starting May; 24 - 48 weeks) $2,800-$3,000 a week.
Hours per week: 40
Duties and/or Responsibilities:
Gravel Base:
- Communicate gravel/base crew needs with dispatch.
- Communicate needs with plant.
- Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects.
- Complete quality gravel/base jobs within specifications.
- Coach employees.
- Communicate needed information with employees.
- Complete necessary paperwork.
- Deliver samples to the lab.
- Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily.
Milling:
- Communicate crew needs with dispatch.
- Communicate needs with plant.
- Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects.
- Complete quality gravel/base jobs within specifications.
- Coach employees.
- Communicate needed information to employees.
- Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily.
Paving:
- Communicate paving crew needs with dispatch - Calculate number of trucks required to haul aggregate and/or asphalt according to capacity of vehicles, traffic conditions, distance from work site and productivity of drivers.
- Communicate needs to plant.
- Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects.
- Produce quality asphalt product with specifications.
- Coach employees.
- Communicate needed information to employees.
- Assist new employees.
- Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily.
- Tour work site to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment.
- Measure slope and thickness of paving to verify compliance with contract.
- Measure distances from reference points to locate boundaries of construction site.
- Directs work crews engaged in operation of vehicles and machines.
- Verifies curvature of graded surface using hand level.
- Supervise bituminous paving crews, aggregate production crews or crews engaged in operating machines to tamp, roll and smooth surfaces for subgrade of highway.
- Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in product line and supervisory role.
- Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
- Paving supervisor experience preferred.
