What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Diesel Technician III position at Knights Companies Inc?
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Diesel Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and performing the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and related systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key elements of the role include:
- Assist the Area Shop Manager in assessing repairs, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining workflow.
- Train and mentor junior technicians, providing guidance and support in technical skills and best practices.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in diesel engines and related systems.
- Conduct tire changes, oil/filter services, and lubrication on various vehicles and equipment.
- Perform engine reconditioning, differential repairs, and major system diagnostics using diagnostic tools.
- Conduct off-site service calls for repairs using the company vehicle and maintain its organization.
- Perform quality control checks and oversee shop tools/equipment maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and follow repair order directions with accurate documentation.
- Maintain positive workflow and teamwork within the shop.
Required Education & Experience:
- Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred OR
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the diagnosis, repair, and troubleshooting of heavy equipment and passenger and commercial vehicles.
- ASE Certifications preferred.
- Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred.
Leadership Skills:
- Ability to coach, mentor, develop and empower others.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Special Requirements:
- Knowledge of OEM diagnostic programs, ability to use a diagnostic laptop, as well as the process of diagnosing vehicles.
- Ability to read schematics and familiarity with the process.
- Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if it is operating properly.
- Proficient computer skills: knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email
- Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.
