POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical transport Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with and achieving CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Trasport Systems) accreditation. This position oversees compliance initiatives, policy development, and auditing processes to maintain the highest standards in medical transport operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the organization in achieving and maintaining CAMTS accreditations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, FAA, Medicare/Medicaid, and state EMS laws.
- Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for medical transport operations.
- Stay updated on changes in healthcare and transportation laws, advising leadership on necessary adjustments.
- Conduct internal audits of patient care records, billing, and operational practices to verify compliance. Investigate compliance violations and coordinate corrective actions to resolve issues.
- Utilize compliance tracking software to monitor audits, documentation, and accreditation progress.
- Leverage data analytics to identify trends and drive process improvements.
- Maintain documentation and reports related to compliance activities.
- Provide RN/Paramedic personnel, dispatchers, and administrative staff on compliance related topics.
- Educate employees on patient privacy laws, billing practices, and workplace safety.
- Develop and deliver compliance training programs and materials.
- Identify areas of legal and operational risk, implementing mitigation strategies.
- Assist in responding to regulatory inspections and government audits.
- Ensure appropriate handling of patient complaints and compliance concerns.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Proficiency in computer systems, including dispatch software, Microsoft Office, and data entry.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
- Five (5) years’ experience working in the medical transport industry, or in a position such as regulatory compliance, policy development, and auditing and investigations.
- Certified Ambulance Compliance Officer (CACO) or Certified Healthcare Compliance (CHC) certification, preferred.
- Valid state of Alaska driver’s license and be insurable under Benteh Medevac’s automotive insurance.
- Clean state and federal background check.
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May involve on-call responsibilities for compliance issues and audits.
- Office-based role using computers, telecommunication systems, and real-time transport monitoring.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sitting for Extended Periods: Majority of the shift will be spent at a workstation using computers.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of a keyboard.
- Occasional Standing or Walking: Moving within the office environment to access documents, whiteboards, or coordinate with team members.
- Stress Management: Working in a high-pressure environment with urgent and critical decision-making responsibilities.
