MDS (Coordinator) Nurse Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate MDS Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of patient care protocols and demonstrate proficiency in various medical settings, including ICU, skilled nursing care, clinics, geriatrics, and emergency medicine. This role requires a commitment to capturing documentation and coding efficiently to maximize reimbursement in a skilled nursing setting while maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients across various settings through capturing documentation and coding effectively to maximize reimbursement in a skilled nursing setting.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, documenting changes and communicating with the healthcare team.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians (if needed for an emergency or for additional hours).
- Educate staff and residents and health management through documentation.
- Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Utilize knowledge of anatomy and physiology to inform patient assessments and interventions.
- Participate in emergency response situations as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous MDS experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate
- Valid nursing license in the state of practice.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and adherence to confidentiality protocols.
- Familiarity with Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) for patient classification.
- Experience or knowledge in critical care (ICU), home care, clinic settings, pediatrics, or emergency medicine is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and make sound clinical decisions based on patient needs.
