Safely and efficiently operates an electric/gas powered industrial truck equipped with forks, dumper or other lifting devices, in the receiving area. Unloads trucks and stacks bins in designated location following prescribed storage pattern. Removes bins from storage rooms following prescribed schedule. Dumps apples in grader room according to blend sheets. Inspects forklift equipment and supplies, and reports condition, using a standard written checklist, on a daily basis. Notifies supervisor of any malfunctions. Reports any Food Quality or Food Safety issues to the Supervisor immediately. Reports any concerns or signs of product tampering to the Supervisor immediately.
As an additional duty, this position may also require the following: Holds valid driver’s license from their state of residence to drive required vehicles. Must be able to be personally bonded. Must be certified to drive over the road by 1) Passing a CSA physical administered by a designated physician; 2) Having a satisfactory drivers record via the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) background check; 3) Pass an over the road driving test administered by Knouse Foods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

1. Safely and efficiently operates an electric/gas powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forks, or dumper, to lift, stack, tier, or dump full and empty bins in receiving area, including cold storage rooms.
2. Inspects forklift equipment and supplies such as brakes, hydraulics, horn, lights, tires, oil level, and reports condition using standard written checklist on a daily basis. Records hour meter reading at the beginning and end of shift. Reports any equipment malfunctions or mechanical problems to supervisor for repair.
3. Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
4. Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around full bins.
5. Unloads trucks and stacks full bins in location designated on bin ticket following prescribed storage pattern.
6. Monitors bin quality to ensure safe stacking.
7. Loads empty bins onto trucks.
8. Stacks empty bins in designated location.
9. Removes bins from designated storage room, following specified apple type, lot number, row number, etc.
10. Loads full bins of apples onto trucks for interplant deliveries.
11. Dumps apples in grader room according to blend sheet. Tallies number of bins dumped with electronic scanner.
12. Completes appropriate paperwork.
13. Reports any signs of product tampering to the Supervisor immediately.
14. Reports any Food Quality or Food Safety issues to the Supervisor immediately.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
· Performs bin repair.
· Assists fleet drivers with tarping of apple hauling trailers as required.
· Operates or provides backup for the Plant Truck Operator.
ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND SAFETY GEAR
· Drives a Forklift.
· Uses hammer and other small hand tools when performing bin repair.
· Wears personal protection equipment as required.

Education /Knowledge/Experience:
High School degree not required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak and understand simple sentences. Limited English.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
