PART-TIME RECREATION ASSISTANT
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to support Knox County Parks and Recreation’s sports and recreational activities and events for the community. This is a safety sensitive position subject to a drug screen.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate with other KCPR departments and employees to successfully put on activities, tournaments and events. ·
- Prepare various food and merchandise orders, including frying, baking, pressing, and assembling.
- Takes food, beverage, and merchandise orders. Serves, prepares, and charges for purchases.
- Cleans concession areas, including food service equipment, preparation areas, storage rooms, and restrooms daily.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all park patrons
Recreation Assistant – Sports & Recreation Event/Activity Support
- Assists in park preparation for tournaments/events, maintaining facilities during tournaments/events and ensuring that park is back to order after tournaments/events.
- Provide facility repair and maintenance support at ball parks, including fields, fences, parking areas, play areas, etc.
- Assist with base set-up, pitching mounds or rubbers, fencing and batter’s box size. · Pick up all trash, clean and sanitize dugouts, replace trash bags, clean and stock restrooms.
- Turn lights on/off at various fields. ·
- Unlock/Lock facilities.
- Perform trimming, mowing and general landscaping at various parks.
- General cleanup, maintenance and repair of various facilities at Knox County Parks.
Recreation Assistant – Administrative Office Support
- Administer background checks for potential camp counselors, Instructors and volunteers for all Knox County Recreational Programs.
- Update Master Activities/Events Calendar according to changes made by the Recreation Staff.
- Email Correspondence with organizations about the use of Knox County facilities, policies and procedures.
- Collect facilities registration fees via recreation Software.
- Edit and update KCPR social media and web pages daily, as instructed.
- Assist with set up and break down at KCPR recreation activities.
- Oversee volunteers at KCPR activities.
- Enter data into various spreadsheets and software programs.
- Schedule the use of recreation facilities for outside groups.
- Creates ID/background sports specific spreadsheets to be processed.
- Collects certificates of training from coaches/parents before each specific sports season (NAYS, USA Football, etc.)
Schedules preseason meetings with sports commissioners.- Updates commissioners/coaches list for specific sports provided by KCPR
- Point of contact for all cheer commissioners.
Additional JobFunctions
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours ·
- Work schedule consists of flexible work hours for days, evenings and weekend hours.
- Responds to and reports immediately if called upon by local regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Training & Qualifications
- No previous experience required
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license

Physical Requirements
- Administrative Office Support - Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time working behind a desk on a computer
- Sports & Recreation Event/Activity Support – Ability to engage in frequent physical activity such as bending, kneeling, squatting, standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Operate a limited variety of power equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, weed eaters and groomers.
