STAFF AUDITOR
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to assist and support Auditors-in-Charge in carrying out planned audits, special requests, and other departmental projects, as assigned. You may also be asked to serve as an Auditor-in-Charge on smaller, less complex audits under the oversight and direction of Internal Audit management.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the performance of financial, operational, performance, and compliance audits
- Prepare electronic work papers and other documentation, assist in conducting interviews, and aid in the development of project deliverables to support assigned projects
- As an Auditor-in-Charge, conduct fieldwork, prepare work papers, and identify findings for smaller engagements, as assigned
- Develop project workplans, milestones, and ensure prompt completion of assigned audit work
- Communicate project findings and provide status updates orally and/or in writing to project stakeholders, project teams, and department supervisors
- Complete assignments and tasks in an efficient and timely manner
- Respond to coaching, accept responsibility for assigned work, and demonstrate commitment to continous improvement of work products and processes
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency in professional auditing standards, such as the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Auditing Standards and the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards
- Demonstrate flexibility in adjusting to non-routine assignments and/or unexpected situations
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
Additional Job Functions
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional, or central office supervisors as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Health Department
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or other related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in internal audit, external audit, governmental audit, general compliance, or related work experince.
- Required experience may be substituted with additional years of education or the attainment of a relevant professional certification.
- Auditors are required to complete a minimum of 80 hours of continuing professional education over a two-year period with at least 24 of those hours in governmental-related topics.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position
