What are the responsibilities and job description for the Election Administrator position at Knox County?
The Knox County Board of Elections is seeking a full-time Elections Administrator to join their team! This position is FLSA Exempt and Unclassified. Pay will be commensurate with experience. Elections Administrators are members of the team supporting the election process. They assist in all aspects of the election cycle. As knowledge and skills develop, an individual at this level may begin to assume responsibility for more specialized processes. They maintain key office operations including processing incoming mail and election forms. Leads voter registration and database maintenance processes according to the Secretary of State’s standards set forth by Ohio Revised Code, the Election Official Manual, and Directives from the Ohio Secretary of State.
Responsibilities
- Ensures fair, transparent, and impartial conduct of the Knox County elections process.
- Prepares and submits all election-related publications in compliance with ORC and Secretary of State
- Becomes familiar with Ohio voting laws and regulations
- Performs data entry, word processing and related computer operations
- Oversees the distribution of the petition process and the various elements for candidate filings
- Coordinates the checking of local and state petitions against our voter registration
- Processes petition filing fees
- Oversees Voter Registration Database processes with part-time clerks
- Adding, updating and/or reviewing voter registrations
- Scans and indexes voter records to database
- Adds, updates and/or reviews absentee ballot applications
- Assists with processing overseas and military UOCAVA voters (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act)
- Supervises temporary election workers in absentee mail processing
- Processes notices of new and updated voter registrations, precinct and polling location changes and list maintenance correspondence
- Updates records for felony convictions, deceased voters, and duplicate voters * Reviews and/or enter provisionally cast ballots
- Oversees provisional cross-checks with counterparts in other Ohio counties
- Proofreads ballot language and other documents that can be subject to public records requests
- Assists with the deployment of election equipment prior to the election and post-election pickup of same
- Communicates frequently via telephone, e-mail and in person with the public, county personnel, candidates, elected officials, state officials and representatives from political subdivisions
- Attends staff meetings as well as various training sessions and State Election conferences
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
- Works overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Due to a desire to maintain a bipartisan balance among the staff, the board of elections may consider candidates’ party registrations when making an employment offer.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the County's vehicle insurance policy.
