What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Play Spaces, Trails and Greenways Tech position at Knox County?
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to perform routine care and maintenance of the Knox County trails, greenways and play surfaces. Safety-sensitive position involving operating county equipment such as county vehicles/trucks, power tools, etc., and requires a drug screen.

Essential Functions
The PT Play Spaces, Trails, and Greenways Technician is responsible for the following essential functions:
- Clean, maintain and repair the splash pads, surrounding areas and related equipment to assure safe and sanitary conditions.
- Perform tests and minor repairs on splash pads including, sanitation, safety and troubleshooting operational problems.
- Helps with the maintenance of parks.
- Provides on call coverage for Splash Pad emergencies during hours of operation.
- Conduct inspections of splash pads.
- Completing other parks related assignments, meetings and training.
- Apply chemicals and test water to water to ensure appropriate sanitary and pH levels.
- Document inspection and test results; notify supervisor of concerns.
- Provide excellent customer service to park patrons.
- Assist with maintenance of trails, greenways and play surfaces.
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours.
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
- High School/GED
- The position requires a minimum of 2 years related experience upon hire, transfer, or promotion.
- Must obtain Certified Pool and Spa Operator certification within three (3) months of hire/promotion.
- Must possess and maintain a valid TN Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements
- Frequent moderate effort or almost continuous light physical activity or occasional heavy physical activity (50-100lbs). Must be physically able to operate a variety of maintenance/ repair tools and equipment for the successful performance of the position, including cleaning tools, machines, and hand tools.
Occupational Hazards
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors, cold and hot weather conditions including precipitation.
