This is a Full-time position working 3 – 12-hour day shifts with every 3rd weekend.
The Patient Care Tech is an integral part of the nursing care team who works under the direction and supervision of RNs/LPNs. He/she is a specially trained nursing assistant in the nursing unit who is responsible for the clerical and receptionist functions of the unit. He/She should reflect an atmosphere of calmness and professionalism to patients, visitors and other health team members through a courteous and tactful approach. The Patient Care Tech provides assistance to the patient in carrying out ADLs, performs assigned nursing and non-nursing tasks; identifies potential problems and communicates them appropriately. The Patient Care Tech works cooperatively with other members of the health care team to assist in attainment of patient goals and to provide a clean, safe, pleasant environment.
Essential Functions
- Promptly answers telephone calls and routes call appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Consistently demonstrates competence and proficiency in Ward Clerk responsibilities and procedures.
- Provide nutritional and hydration support and assists patients with personal hygiene/elimination needs.
- Consistently demonstrates an awareness and understanding of patient needs for personal care and comfort.
- Provides nutritional and hydration support and assistance.
- Consistently takes and records temperatures and other vitals and output and other measurements as applicable and reports any abnormal vital signs to appropriate staff.
- Assists nurses with treatments and procedures as directed, in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assumes responsibility for patient belongings and personal property.
- Consistently demonstrates responsibility for cost containment and ensures that all patient charges are properly recorded.
- Strictly follows and enforces the principles of infection control standards.
- Maintains health testing requirements.
- Maintains current certifications / training in BCLS. Completes required competencies annually.
- Attends required unit meetings and in-services or reads minutes.
- Adheres to KHC compliance policies.
Job Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Certification from at least a 75-hour nurse aide course and passed CNA testing upon hire.
- Previous patient care experience, telephone, clerical and computer experience required.
- Current BCLS certification, must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions.
- Current Mandatory Reporter or acquire within three months of hire.
- Must display a high degree of empathetic understanding and kindness towards patients and visitors.
- Must be able to accept direction from nursing supervisors.
- Must possess friendly attitude and excellent customer service.
- Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
