What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registration Clerk – PRN position at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics?
This is a PRN (as needed) position. Must work a minimum of two Saturdays a month.
Under the general supervision of the Registration Coordinator the Registration Clerk is responsible for all registration, pre-admission and admission functions for all types of patients.
Essential Functions
- Has initial contact with the patient and is responsible for providing a comprehensive, coordinated and seamless service to patients.
- Assists the patient through the registration process.
- Obtains current and accurate demographic and insurance information.
- Validates the status of insurance and determines the amount to be covered by private carrier.
- Makes appropriate referrals to assist the uninsured population.
- Collects required fees and co-pays.
- Verifies participation in managed care programs as well as authorization for hospital service with primary care provider.
- Obtaining proper signatures and process patient changes, including discharges, ensuring that all signatures, billing forms, and information are on file prior to patients’ release.
- Prepares patient receipts and balances cash drawer.
- Performs telephone duties as required and routes calls to appropriate staff.
- Maintains an overall understanding of hospital functions and escort patients and public to the proper destination.
Job Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED required
- Mandatory Reporter Training
- Computer use, data entry experience required
- Insurance knowledge is preferred
- Exceptional Customer Service skills required
