About the Role : Performs all types of skilled work related to constructing and maintaining KUB's natural gas, water, and wastewater utility distribution and collection systems. Work will be performed in many different environments and weather conditions. Responsible for operating various types of KUB vehicles and construction equipment, including but not limited to excavators, dump trucks, equipment trailers, loaders, and small cranes, in a safe and efficient manner. Uses proper methods for loading, unloading, stockpiling, and storing materials used in different pipeline construction and maintenance activities in both public and private right of ways. Learns and applies safety rules and regulations of KUB, Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies. Reads and interprets maps, sketches, and / or prints for work-related duties as required in order to operate, construct, and maintain KUB's distribution and collection systems. Responsible for working in a safe manner to ensure personal safety and safety of crew members, employees, and the general public. Works rotating shifts, including stand-by duty, for assigned periods of time on a rotating basis. Subject to be called in at any time due to emergency conditions requiring extended hours to restore KUB's utility systems.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements :
Requires heavy physical work and endurance including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting working in close spaces and trench boxes as required. Requires operating various hand tools and equipment that may weigh more than 75 pounds. Requires above normal mental and visual alertness. Requires physical and mental stamina to work for extended periods of time during emergencies and in extreme weather conditions. Will be required to work a rotating second shift and standby. Works outside during all seasons of the year including unfavorable and inclement weather conditions. Work is often in wet conditions. Will be exposed to high noise levels, dirt, dust, and traffic. May be required to wear the appropriate protective clothing and equipment including respirators, boots, face shields, and eye protection. Subject to be called in at any time. Must be able to work overtime as required.
Minimum Requirements :
- High school education or equivalent with a high degree of mechanical ability
- Experience and / or ability to operate large vehicles, equipment, and tools required in the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility mains and services
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months
- Must demonstrate critical thinking skills in a stressful environment in emergency situations
