What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Cook/Floater position at Koinonia Kaleidoscope?
Koinonia Kaleidoscope is adding a highly qualified Child Care Cook/Floater to our team. This position is responsible for assisting with the preparation of meals and snacks following all center, NC Sanitation, and federal health standards. The ideal candidate will meet expectations for delivering quality food service, financial compliance, operational compliance, and other responsibilities. This position will also assist classroom teachers of various ages to ensure the developmental needs of children are met with excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Work well with children of multiple early ages and all center staff
- Maintain commercial kitchen and related equipment safely and hygienically
- Comply with Koinonia Kaleidoscope and all federal/state/local regulations regarding the care of children and complete timely and accurate documentation according to Koinonia Kaleidoscope and other licensing or regulation requirements
- Maintain records in compliance with USDA CACFP guidelines and requirements
- Assist in other daily center duties as necessary
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and center events
- Use the technology on a daily basis
Requirements:
- Assist with operations of the center’s food program including hygiene, food distribution, meal planning, and preparation ensuring nutritious menus and sufficient food quantity for the center population
- Knowledge of early childhood nutrition and production cooking
- Knowledge of USDA CACFP guidelines and all public health regulations regarding food storage and preparation
- Ability to maintain a safe and sanitary environment in a commercial kitchen setting
- Ability to understand and follow special food plans for food-allergic children or children with other food service special needs and to avoid food cross-contamination
- Basic math skills required for measuring and calculating serving portions
- Ability to use multiple technologies for various daily tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with children, parents, and other staff
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and clean driving background
Required Education and Experience:
- An associate degree in early childhood and at least 2 years of relevant paid experience in an early childhood setting is required.
- ServSafe certification preferred
- CPR/First Aid certified and ITS-SIDS certified
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand up to 95% of the day, stoop, sit, bend and drive as needed
- Must be able to sustain a high level of energy and move from a seated position to a standing position promptly
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust as needed

COVID-19 considerations:
- Masks are required for employees and children ages 2 years and older except when eating or when outdoors. Daily sanitizing of all workstations and learning/play spaces along with temperature checks when staff and children arrive for the day are required.
- Full vaccination for COVID-19 is required for all hired staff.
