What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineering Designer position at Komline-Henry?
Are you a detail-oriented and motivated individual with a passion for mechanical design? Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Engineering Designer and play a crucial role in supporting our Engineering Department from concept to customer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality drafting and design support under the direct supervision of experienced Mechanical Engineers and Project Engineers.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities
- Reviews project specifications and requirements with Project Managers and Project Engineers to assure conformance of design and fabrication of product, and to provide a complete and approved working system
- Utilizes determined CAD software (currently AutoCAD and Solidworks) to develop designs, prepare drawings and layouts as directed
- Creates and maintains detailed up-to-date job folders of design criteria, engineering, and all correspondence
- Creates and/or revises detailed prints for customer approval and shop fabrication
- Checks designs and details for proper functionality of his/her work along with any work the Mechanical Engineering Co-Op/Intern(s) are assisting with
- Releases drawings, as required, to meet Henry Filters standards
- Updates drawing packages which may require obtaining field measurements, as required
- Creates, releases, and updates Bills of Materials (BOM) within the company’s software system
- Convert drawing packages to meet customer specifications
- Create and maintain Project Open Issues Documents
- Assist in operation manual preparation and customer final documentation submittals
- Plans and performs technical work regarding judgement in both team and individual environment
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in an Engineering or related science discipline
- 2 or more years previous experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks or other design software
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office
- Ability to create accurate designs independently and with minimal oversight
- Effective written and oral communication with strong listening and interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and limitations
- Knowledge of drafting room procedures such as retrieving and applying information from engineering standards, purchasing, and manufacturing specifications for preparation, release, and revision of drawings
- Ability to adapt to a changing priorities and effectively meet deadlines under pressure
- Requires ability to interact professionally with customers and suppliers who may, occasionally be difficult to deal with
- Ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the organization
Physical Demands/Work Environment/Travel
- Must have adequate finger dexterity for drafting and computer use
- The position involves reading, writing, mathematics and measuring
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, and have the ability to climb, stand, stoop or kneel for extended periods of time, in order to examine equipment during construction phase, or on-site at a customer’s location
- Work primarily is done in an office area using a computer, and sometimes equipment placed in his or her work area related to projects he or she is currently working on
- May be expected to work on a manufacturing shop floor, which could involve exposure to hazards. Work surfaces may be slippery, uneven or unstable
- Shop temperatures may not always be controlled and could vary from hot to cold, depending on the season
- Travel approximately 5%
