POSITION TITLE: Project Engineer, Mechanical
REPORTS TO: Lead Project Engineer, Mechanical
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will be responsible for all mechanical and structural design activities necessary to support the modification and modernization of electric overhead cranes for Region Americas.
- Responsible for the Product Lines – Legacy EOT and Portal Cranes
- Interpret order documentation including detailed customer specifications to determine scope of work and project plan.
- Ability to search company archives to find records of legacy equipment. Must be proficient in reading legacy equipment mechanical and structural drawings.
- Perform engineering tasks using established procedures. Create equipment layouts, undertake all necessary mechanical and structural calculations to confirm designs and generate final mechanical and structural designs.
- Create detail, sub-assembly, assembly, and installation drawings necessary to satisfy the order scope.
- Write detailed work instructions to support field installation
- Responsible for project planning, scheduling, design execution, and performance to budget and schedule from inquiry through start-up.
EDUCATION: A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years of experience with overhead electric cranes or similar industrial equipment preferred. A PE license or the ability to obtain licensure is a plus. The ideal candidate should have an excellent understanding of machine design and structural engineering practice. Experience in overhead material handling industry is highly preferred. Familiarity with industry specifications including CMAA and ASME B30 is a plus. Knowledge of welding and machining is required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and written communication plays a key role in this position. Should be proficient with SAP, AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Microsoft Office. Ability to effectively communicate between frontline sales, customers, application engineers and project management. Site visits for application and commissioning require the ability to work at heights up to 100 feet off the ground. Travel estimated at 5% to meet with customers, commission equipment, and inspect product at various manufacturing locations. Travel domestically and internationally required.
