Kootenai County Solid Waste is looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to help keep our fleet and facilities running strong. If you’re hands-on, know your way around diesel engines, loaders, dump trucks, and shop tools, we want to hear from you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
You’ll take the lead on keeping a wide range of solid waste equipment running smoothly—everything from semi-tractors to trailers, loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks. You’ll inspect, diagnose, repair, and even operate the equipment when needed. It’s a mix of shop and field work with variety every day.
YOU’RE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:
- Know your way around diesel/automotive mechanics
- Can troubleshoot and fix hydraulics, electrical, and heavy equipment systems
- Have your own tools (we supply some too)
- You can work independently, set your own priorities, and keep things moving
- Don’t mind working occasional weekends, holidays, or after-hours

REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree or certification in Diesel/Automotive Mechanics (or solid hands-on experience)
- 3 years of related experience
- Valid driver’s license (must be insurable)
- Class B CDL (must be willing to get a Class A with tanker within 6 months)
- Familiar with OSHA safety standards (Lockout/Tagout, rigging, lifting devices, etc.)
- Able to get First Aid/CPR certified within 1 year
