What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finishing Operator position at Kopp Glass?
Kopp Glass, a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of high-performance, custom glass products, is seeking to hire a Finishing Operator. No prior glass finishing experience is required however the right candidate will have experience reading and interpreting technical/mechanical drawings, operating various types of machinery, equipment, and measurement tools as well as ability to hand finish materials. This is an opportunity where someone who has no prior experience working glass can come onboard and be provided the training, experience, and skills required to develop a rewarding, long-term career.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists in the finishing of glass products that are molded from molten glass through the use of various types of equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings to determine finishing process and allowable tolerances. Correctly uses micrometers and other measuring devices.
- Ability to set-up and run machines properly, following all safety procedures.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Must be able to read and interpret technical/mechanical drawings.
- Must have strong basic math skills and must be able to convert English units to Metric units (and vice versa).
- Must have experience operating various types of machinery, equipment, and measurement tools.
- Must wear safety PPE: glasses, steel-toed shoes, ear-plugs, work gloves.
- Must be willing and available to work off shifts, including overtime, if needed.
- Must be able to withstand extremely hot and cold temperatures in the work environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have good manual dexterity and excelled eye-hand coordination.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time to be able to work on glassware.
- Must be able to push and /or pull maximum weight of 150 lbs.
- Must be able to lift maximum weight of 150 lbs (max weight performed with two employees).
- Must be able to bend, twist and turn as required during the finishing processes performed.
