ABOUT THE POSITION
The NJ Education Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary Drama/Theater Instructor to lead theater activities for elementary students (Kindergarten – 5th Grade) during an 8-week summer camp program in Tenafly, NJ. The instructor will teach twice a week for two hours per day, using interactive and creative methods to introduce students to the fundamentals of theater, including improvisation, movement, character development, and storytelling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead engaging drama and theater sessions for K–5 students, focusing on creativity, teamwork, and performance skills.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that introduce acting, improvisation, and stage presence.
- Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that encourages self-expression and confidence.
- Independently manage classroom behavior and maintain a structured learning environment
- Ensure proper classroom setup and cleanup before and after each session.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Degree in Theater, Performing Arts, or related field preferred.
- Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience teaching drama or theater to elementary-aged children.
- Instructional Skills: Strong ability to create engaging, interactive lessons that foster creativity and confidence.
- Classroom Management: Ability to maintain a positive, structured learning environment.
- Availability: Must be able to commute to Tenafly, NJ, and commit to the 8-week summer program.
COMPENSATION
$40/hr
