Summary: The HR Generalist is involved in all aspects of the employee lifecycle and responsible for supporting a wide range of human resource functions within the organization, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management processes, benefits administration, compliance, and overall employee wellbeing while often acting as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries. The Generalist ensures adherence to labor laws and proactively fosters a positive work environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead recruitment efforts to attract and retain a diverse and skilled workforce; support Hiring Managers through the process and create offer letters for signature.
- Guide the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring they are integrated smoothly into the organization.
- Work closely and collaboratively with Finance, particularly the Payroll Specialists.
- Support employees in their understanding and maximization of available employee benefits; act as primary point of contact for employee questions.
- Input and manage information into the HRIS system including new hire and term documents, professional certifications, compliance document expiration and more.
- Manage online compliance training and development courses for employees
- Provide backup and support to the HR Director as needed.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as union agreements.
- Maintain accurate HR records and documentation to support legal requirements and audits.
Requirements:
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in ADP or other similar HRIS software systems.
- Knowledge of employment laws and compliance regulations including HIPAA, Wage & Hour Laws and recordkeeping.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is respected but not required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR certification is highly desirable.
Experience and skills:
- Indisputable ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive employee information
- Balanced ability to work independently and collaborate with multiple departments
- 2 years of experience in an HR Generalist or Specialist role, preferably in a unionized non-profit organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to shift priorities as necessary
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
