Purpose of the Position
Reporting to the CHRO, this newly created position at Northside Hospital will be accountable for the hospital's total rewards strategy. This position will have responsibility for ensuring that Northside's total rewards philosophy is aligned to business strategy as well as to the hospital's talent value proposition. Roles at Northside are compressed title-wise; this role is labeled as a director but has the scope and scale that would typically be a VP in other health systems. As a leader of the Human Resources team, the Director of Total Rewards will be responsible for the development, administration and communication of a comprehensive compensation, benefits and health / wellness strategy that enhances the company's ability to not only hire top talent but also to motivate, engage, and retain employees.
The position has responsibility for broad-based compensation and benefits and provides supervision over the design and execution of all related programs. The Director is a recognized subject matter expert in total rewards, developing strong relationships across the human resources organization and with business executives to effectively influence and drive total rewards strategies. The desired outcomes for this position are successful total rewards strategies and programs, aligned with the overall business and enable a high performance, high growth culture.
Key Responsibilities
Build strong partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Develop and implement total rewards strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives and is aimed at attracting and retaining talent in a competitive environment across multiple disciplines.
Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our rewards programs to ensure they are aligned with our business and talent strategies and monitor market trends to make recommendations for changes, as appropriate.
Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts with external partners.
Work with the CHRO to develop and implement Total Rewards strategy and programs. Ensure that all programs align with our business growth and People team priorities.
Drive competitive and attractive total rewards strategies that are cost-effective and consistent with market trends and aligned to Northside's business priorities.
Identify and manage stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs / issues / concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
Acts as a liaison with selected outside advisers or consultants in providing information and data for analysis and benchmarking.
Drive analytical rigor and analysis on effectiveness and competitiveness of existing programs and offerings; establish key metrics including usage, engagement, and cost analyses.
Provide strategic direction, planning, and requirements to execute the design, implementation, communication, and administration of the company's compensation programs; including annual short- and long-term incentives and executive compensation
Ensure that the total rewards programs comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
Continue to evolve and operate reporting and analytics to drive business results
Lead the team through regular benchmarking cycles to analyze and assess market data, industry trends, and best practices to create market competitive reward packages.
Strategize with the Talent Acquisition team to develop competitive offers rooted in market data and aligned with our compensation philosophy for new hires and existing employees.
Lead change management and communications of Total Rewards philosophy and practices with managers, team members, and across the People Team.
Experience and Professional Qualifications
Northside Hospital is seeking a strategic leader with deep Total Rewards experience who has a proven track record in leading and designing comprehensive compensation strategies and teams.
Specifically, this executive will have the following experience / qualifications :
10 years of related experience in human resources, compensation and benefits.
Must have at least 5 years of experience in healthcare industry.
Strategic thinking : The Director, Total Rewards should be able to think strategically and develop a long-term vision for the organization's compensation and benefits programs. They should be able to align these programs with the company's overall business strategy and objectives.
Analytical skills : The Director, Total Rewards must have strong analytical skills to evaluate compensation data and develop effective programs. They should be able to gather and analyze data on employee compensation, benefits, and related costs to inform program design and decision-making.
Communication skills : The Director, Total Rewards must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. They should be able to communicate complex information to a wide range of stakeholders, including executives, managers, and all employees.
Leadership skills : The Director, Total Rewards must have strong leadership skills and be able to manage a team effectively. They should be able to set clear goals, provide guidance and support to team members, and foster a collaborative work environment.
Collaboration skills : The Director, Total Rewards should have excellent collaboration skills and be able to work effectively with other departments, such as finance, legal, and IT, to design and implement compensation and benefits programs that align with organizational goals and objectives.
Knowledge of HR practices, principles and procedures fostering productive working relationships by working closely with colleagues across the People and Customer function.
Demonstrated track record of design, development, communication and administration of total rewards strategies and plans, including bonuses, incentives, and other compensation vehicles, retirement plans, and health & welfare benefits (wellness and social impact).
Proven record of successfully managing multiple vendors and complex contracts.
Hands-on leader. The Director, Total Rewards is resourceful, forward-thinking, drawn to building from ambiguous and unsolved problems and have an "own the outcome" mindset.
They are a visionary who can build the strategy to operationalize (able to see both the big picture while also understanding the details and impact to making the vision a reality).
Compensation for this role is commensurate with experience, but the general range offered is targeted in the 200-250k area plus benefits etc.
