Korn Ferry has partnered with a prominent South Carolina based law firm in a search for a Litigation Associate Attorney. This role can sit in either the Columbia or Greenville, South Carolina offices, or (if barred in North Carolina) the Charlotte, North Carolina, office. Candidates wishing to sit in Charlotte, North Carolina must be barred in both South Carolina and North Carolina.
The ideal candidate will have a background (as appropriate to years of experience) in handling complex cases involving construction defects, insurance coverage disputes, products liability, and transportation matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Management: Handle a diverse caseload of construction defect and insurance defense matters from inception to resolution – with the appropriate oversight and guidance as required by experience and skill set
- Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research on complex issues related to construction law, insurance coverage, liability, and regulatory compliance
- Document Preparation: Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and settlement agreements
- Representation: Represent clients in court appearances, including motions, hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement effective case strategies
- Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates, legal advice, and manage expectations
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior attorneys, paralegals, experts, and staff to prepare cases mediation or trial
- Compliance & Updates: Stay current with legislative changes, case law developments, and industry trends affecting construction defect and insurance defense litigation
- Professional Development: Participate in industry organizations to enhance your professional development
- Business Development: Participate in marketing and business development activities to promote the Firm's services and expand client relationships
Qualifications
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Licensure: Active membership in good standing with the South Carolina Bar (required); if sitting in Charlotte, North Carolina then must be barred with the North Carolina Bar
- Experience: 4-6 years construction defect, products and insurance defense cases experience
- Knowledge: Understanding of construction law, insurance coverage issues, civil litigation procedures, and court practices
- Skills: Strong legal research and analytical abilities; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis); Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Attributes: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment; High level of professionalism, ethical standards, and attention to detail
