What are the responsibilities and job description for the HBO Technician - Certified Hyperbaric Tech position at Korzen Health?
Korzen Health is collaborating with University Orthopedic Care to integrate a full-time Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) into their team. This is a clinic-based position (NOT hospital-based).
The Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) will facilitate and provide care to patients during their clinical visit at our facility. The CHT will be responsible for administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients under the supervision of a Hyperbaric Physician and Office Manager. All therapeutic and diagnostic procedures will follow the physicians orders and established protocols.
Key Responsibilities
The Lead CHT will be responsible for the supervision of the other CHT as well as be the Safety Officer for the facility.
Patient Care and Safety:
- Restricting or removing any hazardous materials or equipment items from the chambers.
- Administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients safely and effectively.
- Monitor patients during treatment, ensuring their comfort and safety inside the hyperbaric chamber.
- Measure and record patient vitals, such as blood pressure, glucose levels, weight, and height, as required.
- Educate patients and their families about the benefits, risks, and safety guidelines of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
- Capable of dealing with medical emergencies
Chamber Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate hyperbaric chambers and related systems in compliance with established protocols.
- Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance of hyperbaric chambers, equipment, and clinical tools (e.g., vital sign machines, thermometers, chairs).
- Perform daily checks on backup air and oxygen supplies to ensure uninterrupted operation.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient treatment records, diagnostic reports and safety logs.
- Establishing and maintaining written, standard operation procedures, emergency procedures, maintenance routines, policies, and equipment logs.
- Report adverse patient reactions to the hyperbaric physician and assist in adjusting treatments as necessary.
Clinic Support:
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including laundry (washing, drying, folding) and inventory management.
- Perform continuous quality improvement tasks, such as chart audits and procedure reviews.
- Assist with patient orientation and answer any treatment-related questions.
Collaboration and Compliance:
- Consult regularly with the Hyperbaric Physician to discuss treatment outcomes and protocol adjustments.
- Comply with all infection control standards and occupational health policies.
- Attend training sessions and maintain up-to-date certifications as required.
- Ensure all personnel operating hyperbaric equipment and attending patients in the facility are appropriately qualified to perform their responsibilities
Requirements:
- Knowledge of hyperbaric medicine policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow infection control standards.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Physical ability to perform job-related tasks, including daily pressurization in the chamber (excluding pregnancy or temporary medical conditions like colds or sinus issues).
Qualifications and Certifications:
- Successful completion of approved course by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society
- Successful completion of 480 hours of clinical placement
- Certified as a CHT
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification and AED Certification.
